The Four-in-hand is by far the most popular knot, and the best to wear with short or long-point collars. It also works well with button-down collars, with or without collar bars.

Windsor and Half Windsor knots are far wider than the Four-in-hand. They
should be worn only with collars that have a large enough space between
the points.

The Bow Tie and the Ascot are knots you might wish to wear at some time
in your life — maybe on the occasion of your next wedding, or Nobel Prize
acceptance speech.
